cam locksIntroduction to Weather Resistant Locks

UL-tested NEMA 4 design prevents moisture from entering the lock through its keyway or lock-mounting openings.

NEMA 4 Enclosures and Locks have been tested for conformance with UL Standard 50, Type 4. As specified by the Enclosures and Electrical Equipment: Hose and Hosedown Test Procedure, Underwriters Laboratories subjected the locks to the following stringent conditions:

Hose diameter: 1 inch (25.4 mm)
Distance: 10 to 12 feet
   (3.0 to 3.7 meters)
Contact points: enclosure joints
Contact duration: 4 seconds per linear inch
   (1.6 seconds/cm)
Flow rate: 65 gallons/minute
   (246 liters/minute)
Testing time: 5 minutes

Note: for larger enclosures the duration of the water stream in contact is equal to the test length in inches divided by 15 (or 2.62 times the test length in meters). Test results are available on request.

DURABILITY
Locks resist moisture, dust, salt and extreme temperatures.
Rugged construction and precision manufacturing provide the ultimate in environmental protection:
  • Gaskets and internal O-rings are precisely fitted, environmentally sound and long lasting.
  • Materials of construction are chosen for their weather and rust resistant properties: zinc die-cast plugs and barrels, brass keys and tumblers, steel cams.
  • Extra protection locks feature chrome plating over double nickel, a combination that has been life-tested to withstand 500 continuous hours of salt spray.
  • Electronic switch locks feature anti-static components and non-shorting contacts.
  • Stainless steel scalp and dust shutter options are available on cam and switch lock mechanisms for additional contaminant protection.
  • Caps that enclose the lock head for added protection are available with or without spring loading.

FLEXIBILITY
Turnkey solutions ensure the right lock for the situation--hundreds of standard and custom options to choose from.
Choose from mechanical cam locks and electrical switch locks in a variety of configurations:
  • Keyed or keyless entry.
  • Reversible keys.
  • Custom key overmolding.
  • Over 200 unique single-, double- and triple-bitted key and tumbler combinations.
  • Selectable cam and lock lengths.
  • Electrical current ratings from milli-amps to 20amps, standard or 20kV dc anti-static protection, multiple poles and PCB, solder, screw or fast-on type terminals.
  • Wire harness options and custom configurations.
  • Nut or clip-lock mounting.
  • Special weather resistant customization options.

PROTECTION
Weather Resistant Locks protect against the invader as well as the elements.
Standard, High- and Ultra-Security Configurations allow you to choose the right protection solution for your application and your budget:
  • DUO tumbler locking mechanism in a NEMA 4 package offers high security in high-moisture applications.
  • DUO locks feature a positive acting tumbler mechanism using 14 tumblers and a triple-bitted key.
  • Design and utility patent coverage on certain locks.
